After spending a wonderful vacation in a tropical paradise, it is now time to get “plugged in” again. First order of business is to go off topic and tell you about my trip. See pictures below. We started off our trip with an overnight stay in Miami, South Beach. Sorry to report that I was not very impressed. The beach and water are very pretty but the service was not very good. We stayed at the Palmer House which is being renovated. If you want a very hip room with a cool vibe that is not the slightest bit practical, then this is the place for you. There is no parking available so you have to valet or street park and they do not even serve coffee in the morning – never good! This hotel is located right behind the Versace Mansion, which, now that I think about it, may have been the subconscious impetus for my buying Versace sunglasses on St. Kitts. The overall feel of Miami for me was not very friendly, of course I am from Texas, the friendliest state there is!
Next stop was the Marriott Resort on St. Kitts. This place was beautiful – the resort and the island. The color of the water is so incredible and the backdrop of the mountains was spectacular. The beach at the Marriott had awesome snorkeling. There were tons of colorful fish all around us. Sandra (my wonderful and sometimes embellishing partner) said she saw a shark! She is an attorney and would never lie. When she told me to come see it, I promptly swam the other way. Seriously, wouldn’t you? We were very lucky to arrive when we did because they had just experienced a full week of rain that dumped about 14 inches on the island, unfortunately that was like steroids for the mosquitoes. Our week was sunny and very warm. The main tourist attraction is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Brimstone Hill Fortress. It is an amazing example of 18th century British military architecture. The views from there are wonderful. Driving on the wrong side of the road from the wrong side of the car was an experience not soon forgotten. I will never complain about potholes in our roads here again!
Overall analysis was that this place was very pretty but still does not top St. Martin/St. Maarten for me. In addition to great scenery, my favorite vacations have involved delicious food and wine and St. Kitts missed the mark there.
So that is it. I will carry this relaxing and refreshing vacation with me through to our next one. Until then, I will keep you posted on the things you need to know about the third sector. Oh, and as promised, I will give you reviews of my graduate studies, which I am now a week behind – bummer!
